Hello Friends,

Welcome to Artisan’s website!

Our website is an extension and reflection of what Artisan is as a company. We began on Canyon Road in Santa Fe in 1975. The current four owners all began as retail clerks and  have worked together for over 20 years. We have two retail stores in Santa Fe and Albuquerque that have employees who are mostly artists dedicated to their art and helping you with yours. Our website is competitively priced with other internet art material sites from much larger companies. Please visit our stores in Santa Fe or Albuquerque, call or click, and allow us an opportunity to earn your business.

Online Shopping

Prices so low, they’re available online only. Our online store is also just a button away (red links on right). Please note that, like most online stores, Artisan online pricing is different than in-store pricing. Online you do all the work and the order is filled, so prices are less than in-store.  All purchases are shipped to you directly.

Kicking the SHIP out of the Internet!

Join us in kicking the SHIP out the internet! Now you can skip the shipping costs when you order online and choose to pick it up at our Santa Fe store! Email Jeff to get Kick-Started!

Budding Artist Update

Congratulations to the
2014 Budding Artist Fellowship WINNERS!

Our Budding Artists – Katie Broyles & Jonah Hoffman – have received their first month’s credits, and are happily anticipating their summer of art! Our congratulations goes out to Katie & Jonah. Thank you to everyone who participated. Your patience was appreciated.

Thanks go out again to the EvansDukarich law firm for stepping up again this year and sponsoring another Budding Artist. Steve Evans is an acrylic artist in Phoenix and his partner Gary Dukarich is an avid supporter of the arts.

Thanks guys for realizing what a difference “keeping a student immersed in art supplies for a year” makes in the world. You two lawyers have such big hearts, you ruin the lawyer jokes for all of us.

Cool Item of the Month

…by Natural Pigments

A Brand New Fine Art Medium

It’s not often that a brand-new fine art medium comes along. Ceracolors is a new artist-grade paint made from quality pigments in a water-soluble wax binder. Although made from wax, Ceracolors are not encaustic paints in that they do not require heat to use. They are also not “cold wax” in the traditional sense, since they do not contain solvents or require solvents. They are simply wax emulsified in water in a process that creates an opalescent micro-emulsion.

Ceracolors is water-soluble, beeswax-based paint providing a wide range of painting techniques from acrylic- and gouache-like paint layers to thin watercolor-like washes. They are fast-drying colors suitable for all supports used for encaustic painting, yet they do not require any special tools and heated instruments. Use any brush suitable for water-based paint. The ingredients in Ceracolors are found in food and cosmetics so they are not considered to be toxic.
Use Ceracolors Like Encaustic

Because Ceracolors is a wax medium, once dry you can sculpt, melt and manipulate it like any encaustic medium. Heat setting Ceracolors actually helps to make it more resistant to wet scrubbing (scrubbing the dried paint film with a wet brush). Its behavior is similar to encaustic paint, in that you can heat set and fuse each layer to build a thick wax paint film.

Ceracolors Mediums Extends Use

With Ceracolors Gel Medium you can apply thick impasto-like layers of color. Add Fluid Medium to increase transparency, as well as extend paint. Mixing Fluid Medium into thicker mediums, like Ceracolors Gel, will thin the paint and increase its flow. Fluid Medium can be used as an adhesive in collage when using materials that are porous and not water-sensitive. Use Retarder to extend the wet time of Ceracolors. All Ceracolors mediums and additives are compatible with the entire family of Ceracolors products.

Artists of the Month

Meet Nancy Reyner.
Call me an optimist, but I believe that man has the powerful ability to dream, to create better worlds and new realities. And images play an important role in this. To create powerful but positive images, painting becomes an excavation of self, searching for questions as well as answers.

Meet Kim English.
“I’m always searching for an image that tells a story. They are all around us. They are the stories of everyday life. Being at the same time familiar and unique, they inspire me to find meaning in the experiences we all share.”
